Pulling The Trigger

You guys. YOU GUYS.

It's done. Miss Floret and the Luministe: A Cautionary Tale is done.

Well, as done as it's going to be until an agent and/or editor gets their hands on it and has some revision-like thoughts. And on a related note, my fabulous husband is the best, most patient beta reader ever. He's proven his devotion by reading my 130,000 words four separate times, and he's given me helpful feedback to boot. So shout out to you, HM! And my other lovely beta readers who helped me tweak bits and pieces as the process went along. You are all amazing, and I appreciate you.

Now comes querying - pulling the trigger on...something. A new phase of my life? My failure? A lengthy bout of self-torture? The querying process, and its potential effects on my sanity, might be more than mere words can describe. In lieu of eloquence, please accept this laser cats video.

In practical terms, querying means that I spent the weekend drafting emails to agents on my now-extensive "agent wish-list." I'm sending out the first round this week (standard recommendation: five to ten queries at a time). All the time I used to pour into Microsoft Word, I now pour into agentquery.com and querytracker.net. I'll keep you updated, Dear Reader, but I promise not to bore you with each little rejection.

In the meantime, many long-neglected issues in the Fenner household will be addressed. I'm also starting a round of research for my second book, which means I've inundated myself with packages from book resellers on Amazon. Exciting times!

Wewt! That's fantastic, Allison! I'll buy two, soon as it's out.

Jimbo - Heh. This process is going to take a while, so you might want to consider buying four copies. The boys might be old enough for their own by the time this book sees the light of day. ;)

Seriously, though, I really appreciate the encouragement!

I think you've got a winner on your hands. How do I know? Because I found your opening paragraph on Nathan's blog and you were one of the few that caught my attention :)

Thanks so much, Suzi! I'm so thrilled to hear it! I went searching for your paragraph on that comment thread, but couldn't find it, what with all 1500 entries. Good luck to you! :D
