What I learned this weekend

(1) Appertaining to the Novel: I must scrap an entire chapter of my manuscript.

Why? you ask in horror. Well, this chapter introduces my male main character, and it's weak. It's not compelling. It doesn't get the job done. I'm not officially editing yet -- not until this weekend -- but this realization has been percolating in my subconscious for a while, prompted by my alpha readers' comments.

Rewriting this particular chapter is no small matter, but not because of word count. I must make my main male character more compelling at the outset. I know him very well now; I've finished the book and explored his character arc. Going back and painting the initial picture of him will hopefully be easier as a result, but I still haven't decided what on earth I'm going to write.

(2) Appertaining to the season: I can still sunburn even though it is still officially winter. I knew that already, but for some reason it slipped my mind this weekend. Do you know what's cute, Dear Reader? Looking like a lobster in March. Sooo cute.

(3) Appertaining to the kitchen: Over the years we have inherited a ridiculous number of dining chairs -- seriously, at least twelve. All of them are rickety. Every. Single. One. No amount of glue or nails or screws will solve this problem. A trip to the Pottery Barn Outlet is pending (ahhh, Mecca!). Until then, no new fabric goes on the old chairs.

I finished the curtains, however!

Watching the Olympics makes me productive. I gold medaled in sewing.
Also, I cannot explain why the greens match so terribly in photos
but so well in real life. You'll just have to take my word for it.

(4) Appertaining to firearms: Apparently they are delicious. Can I use these to hunt gummy bears?

(5) Appertaining to novel titles and the creation thereof: They are my artistic Achilles' heel. I still have no clue what to call this thing. No clue.
